The project “Prevention and mitigation of the consequences of man-made cross-border disasters in the Vidin- Zajecar region” was presented during a press conference held in the hall of the Municipal Council of Vidin. Its leading partner is Vidin Municipality, and a project partner – Zajecar Municipality.

The Mayor of Vidin Ognian Tsenkov welcomes all participants in the event. “I would like to express my satisfaction that Vidin Municipality works in partnership with the twinned Serbian municipality of Zajecar. The implementation of this project will bring important benefits to both neighbouring regions. In addition to providing the necessary equipment for collecting waste and cleaning the landfills with the newly acquired equipment, there will be an exchange of experience and training in the sphere of disasters” Tsenkov said and wished for the successful implementation of the project.

The mayor of Zajecar, Bozhko Nikic, also attended the press conference, who also expressed his satisfaction with the joint work on the project and stressed that it is of great importance to both municipalities as the aim is to prevent the consequences of disasters.

The project is co-funded by the European Union through the INTERREG-IPA Bulgaria-Serbia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020. The contract value is EUR 547 711.82 and its duration is 24 months, until 22.11.2018.

With the realization of the project in the cross-border region, Vidin Municipality will have 2 waste collection machines available, which will help and increase the efficiency in the work of the Municipal Unit “Cleanness”. Demonstrative cleaning with new equipment on contaminated sites is also planned. In this way, people will be better informed and ready to cope with the challenges they face.
