The Municipality of Vidin, Bulgaria in partnership with the municipality of Zajecar, Serbia, completed the implementation of a grant contract under the INTERREG-IPA Cross-border Cooperation Program Bulgaria-Serbia with № РД-02-29-252 / 22.11.2016 for financing the project “Prevention and mitigation of the consequences of man-made cross-border disasters in the Vidin-Zajecar region”, Ref. № CB007.1.31.304.
The aim of the ending project is to contribute to reducing risks such as drought, floods, forest fires, landslides and environmental pollution as well as their prevention and to increase the administrative capacity in this area of responsible experts in the long run.
The main task that united the project partners is to prevent and mitigate the effects of artificially created cross-border pollution in the Vidin-Zajecar region.
Within the framework of the project, the following activities were carried out for the purchase of equipment for municipal waste collection in the two municipalities – 2 new waste-collecting machines were delivered in Vidin and 4 in Zajecar. Demonstration cleaning of some of the most polluted areas in settlements of each partner was implemented. In June 2018, there was an exchange of experience for employees of the Zajecar Municipality administration in Vidin, and in November employees of the two municipalities participated in training to increase the capacity of the personnel involved in the prevention of disasters related to human activity.
A detailed study of the transboundary impact of illegal landfills on the territory of the municipality of Vidin and the municipality of Zajecar has been prepared on the basis of the information gathered and a map of contaminated sites in the relevant municipality has been prepared. The survey and maps are uploaded on the project’s website www.vidin-zajecar-cbc.info.
The final press conference in Zajecar, Serbia was held on 20.11.2018 in the building of the municipality and the closing event of the Lead Partner – Vidin Municipality took place on 21.11.2018 in the hall of the Municipal Council – Vidin.
